Our Story

the inspiration behind our mission

The story of Project Seka started in a small village in

Uganda called Lwanyonyi. Alexis Henderson, one of our founders, first traveled there in the beginning of 2023 after graduating from nursing school, seeking to volunteer in a hospital and support children in need. Through a volunteer program, she connected with a host family, Bazil and Alice, and spent three weeks in their village, working in a nearby hospital and helping care for local children.

The experience was transformative. Lexi fell in love with the village, the children, and the community, and she has returned repeatedly, maintaining a close connection with the family and the people she met. While volunteering, she recognized that short-term help, though valuable, could not address the long-term needs of the village—particularly in healthcare, education, and economic opportunity.

Inspired to make a lasting impact, Lexi and her family partnered with their host family to launch Project Seka. Our nonprofit exists to provide sustainable support, focusing on three main directives: improving access to healthcare, expanding educational opportunities for children, and creating economic pathways for women.

At Project Seka, we believe in humanity first—bringing resources, nurturing potential, and empowering communities to thrive. Every life deserves hope, every community deserves change, and together, we make it possible.
