Lwanyonyi Healthcare Facility

Project Seka's first initiative is to accumulate enough funds to build a new 5,000 sq. ft. healthcare center in the village of Lwanyonyi, bringing essential medical services to more than 70,000 people across the parish. Once built, the facility will treat 100+ patients daily and offer comprehensive care—including maternal health, immunizations, outpatient services, minor procedures, and an on-site pharmacy. In partnership with the Ugandan government, which will run and staff the center, this project will help alleviate the need for residents to travel over 7 km for basic healthcare, improving access, outcomes, and overall quality of life.

We’re aiming to raise $50,000 to launch the first phase of our project — a crucial milestone that will help us turn our vision into action. But our mission doesn’t stop there. To keep growing and making an impact, we’ll rely on ongoing contributions from supporters like you. Every donation, big or small, helps sustain the work and move us closer to lasting change.

Facility Details

  • The healthcare facility will include a waiting room, multiple treatment rooms, a delivery/birthing room, a lab, and a pharmacy.

  • Some of the services that will be offered at the healthcare facility include: outpatient services/treatment of common illnesses (malaria, coughs, diarrhea, etc.), immunizations, prenatal care, labor and delivery, postnatal care, minimally invasive procedures, and more.

  • The facility will not offer inpatient services, but for critical patients who require higher levels of care, the facility can help to stabilize them for a short period of time before arranging a safe transfer to a nearby hospital.

Community Details

  • The healthcare facility will be located in the heart of the village of Lwanyonyi, where the population is about 15,000, but will also serve the surrounding five villages (AKA the parish) with a total population closer to 100,000.

  • Currently, the nearest government-run healthcare facility is in a neighboring village, which is beyond the sugarcane plantation, approximately 7 km (~4.3 miles) from the new facility's location.

  • Many pregnant women in active labor from the village of Lwanyonyi have to cross the sugar plantation on foot in order to reach the closest healthcare facility for them to give birth at. This is very risky and leads to poor outcomes and sometimes death for either mother or baby.

So we raise the money, then what?

  • The initial funds raised will cover both supplies and labor required to build the facility. We will be hiring local contractors from the village to do the building.

  • Once built, the building will become a government run healthcare facility, with government-hired healthcare professionals.

  • The facility will be public and free of cost to all individuals, but will likely be overwhelmed by high volumes of patients immediately upon opening, and quickly run out of drugs/supplies.

  • The government will supply basic drugs/supplies every two months, but the facility will most likely run out before a new supply comes in, which is why ongoing donations will be so important.
